Tinubu wraps up state visit to Brazil, departs for Abuja

President Bola Tinubu departed Brasília, Brazil, for Abuja on Wednesday following a high-level state visit aimed at enhancing Nigeria-Brazil bilateral relations.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the presidential jet took off from Brasília International Airport Air Force Base at approximately 12:57 a.m. local time.

At the airport, Ambassador Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, along with Ambassador Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete, the Brazilian Ambassador to Nigeria, were present to bid farewell to the President.

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other government officials also attended the departure, which included a guard of honour led by Colonel Cel Nicolas.

President Tinubu arrived in Brasília early on August 25 for this strategic diplomatic engagement, where he was greeted with full military honours.

He had private discussions with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Brazilian officials, leading to the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering aviation, foreign affairs, science and technology, and agriculture—critical sectors for Nigeria’s development agenda.

Additionally, President Tinubu met with the Director-General of Brazil’s Securities and Exchange Commission and the Board of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, highlighting the strong performance of the Nigerian market as a reflection of investor confidence in his administration’s reforms.

The visit also included meetings focused on deepening cooperation in trade, education, and innovation. President Tinubu engaged with members of the Nigerian diaspora in Brazil, encouraging them to play an active role in nation-building.
