Tinubu reappoints Dankaka as FCC chair, expands commission with fresh appointments
In a decisive step towards strengthening Nigeria’s Federal Character Commission (FCC), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Dr. Muheeba Dankaka as the Executive Chairman for a second five-year term.
The announcement was made in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Monday.
The reappointment of Dankaka comes alongside the appointment of Mohammed Musa as the new secretary of the commission.
Meanwhile, Kayode Oladele, a former House of Representatives member from Ogun State, has been retained as a commissioner. Oladele previously served as the FCC’s acting chairman upon the expiration of Dankaka’s first term in 2024.
President Tinubu also renewed the appointments of commissioners Lawal Ya’u Roni (Jigawa), Abubakar Atiku Bunu (Kebbi), and Eludayo Eluyemi (Osun) for another term, emphasizing his commitment to continuity and stability within the commission.
To further strengthen the FCC, the president appointed 31 new commissioners, representing various states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Among the new appointees are Hon. Obina Oriaku (Abia), Mrs. Bema Madayi (Adamawa), and Babangida Gwana (Bauchi), among others, showcasing a diverse array of talent and leadership from across the nation.
These new appointments reflect Tinubu’s dedication to ensuring equitable representation and enhancing the FCC’s role in fostering unity and cooperation among Nigeria’s diverse regions.
