Tinubu postpones trips to South Africa, Angola over Kebbi, Kwara attacks

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, as he awaits further security briefings on the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.

The development was confirmed on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

According to Onanuga, the President ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State following a request from the state governor. He also directed the police to track down the bandits responsible for the attack on church members.

President Tinubu had been scheduled to depart Abuja today for the 20th G20 Summit in South Africa, before proceeding to Luanda for the 7th AU-EU Summit.

However, concerned about the security incidents in Kebbi and the attack on worshippers in Kwara on Monday, he opted to delay his departure.

He is now awaiting reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi State on his behalf, as well as updates from the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) on the situation in Kwara.

President Tinubu also reaffirmed his directive to the security agencies to intensify efforts toward rescuing the 24 abducted schoolgirls and ensuring their safe return.
