Tinubu condemns Maiduguri attack, vows end to terrorism in Nigeria
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the recent terror attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State, assuring Nigerians that the country will not bow to fear or intimidation.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the President commiserated with families of victims, sympathised with the injured, and stood in solidarity with the people of Borno during what he described as a difficult time.
Tinubu said the attacks were deeply distressing, noting that the loss of lives was painful. He, however, described the incidents as desperate attempts by terrorist elements facing sustained pressure from Nigerian security forces.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to defeating insurgency, stressing that ongoing military operations would be intensified to eliminate all criminal threats across the country.
He commended the bravery of Nigerian troops for successfully repelling coordinated attacks on military positions in the state, praising their resilience and dedication to protecting the nation.
Describing the assaults as acts of desperation by weakened terrorist groups, Tinubu expressed confidence in the capacity of both military personnel and civilian task forces to restore peace and stability.
He also revealed that additional operational support and equipment had recently been approved to strengthen the capabilities of security agencies, adding that the measures were already being implemented.
As part of immediate response efforts, the President directed security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to oversee operations firsthand, while also instructing emergency agencies to ensure proper treatment and care for the injured.
Reiterating his firm stance against terrorism, Tinubu vowed that perpetrators would be hunted down and defeated, emphasizing that no part of Nigeria would serve as a safe haven for criminal elements.
The statement reads, “The recent news from Maiduguri, Borno State, is profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time.”
“I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies operating in various theatres.”
“We will continue to intensify our efforts against all criminal elements, wherever they may be,” he added.
“I must commend the courage and fighting spirit of our patriotic troops who successfully repelled the coordinated attacks by these terrorists on military positions in the state.”
“The Monday attacks were desperate acts of the evil-minded terrorist groups. Our gallant military and civilian task forces will curtail and put them down.”
“Just last weekend, during a security meeting with leaders of security and intelligence agencies, I approved additional equipment and operational support to enhance their capabilities. This effort is already in progress.”
“Additionally, I have directed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation. I have also directed the emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured,” he said.
“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them. Nigeria will not succumb to fear,” the President declared.
