Tinubu: Buhari’s incorruptible legacy won’t be forgotten
President Bola Tinubu paid a touching tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari during a special federal executive council (FEC) meeting held in his honor. Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in a London clinic after a prolonged illness, was laid to rest at his home in Daura, Katsina state, on Tuesday.
In his remarks, Tinubu emphasized Buhari’s exemplary character, stating, “His record will be debated, as all legacies are, but the character he brought to public life, the moral force he carried, and the incorruptible standard he represented will not be forgotten.”
He regarded Buhari as “first among soldiers in war, first among citizens in peace,” recognizing his profound dedication to the nation.
Tinubu further described Buhari’s qualities as “pious without show, just without cruelty, humane without sentimentality,” highlighting the former president’s remarkable integrity. “His life was a rebuke to vice and a refuge for virtue,” he added, underlining the strong moral values Buhari lived by.
Concluding his tribute, Tinubu stated, “Such was the man Nigeria has lost. Such was the man for whom our nation now mourns.” He expressed the honor he felt in leading Buhari’s funeral procession, alongside Vice-President Kashim Shettima, to ensure he received a burial befitting a noble leader.
