TESCOM: Shortlisted candidates to undergo NDLEA drug test before employment

The Kwara State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has announced that shortlisted candidates in its ongoing recruitment process will undergo a mandatory drug test at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) before receiving their job offers.

TESCOM Chairman, Mallam Bello Taoheed, disclosed this on Tuesday while providing updates on the recruitment process, which attracted 5,290 applicants.

He noted that 4,163 candidates successfully completed the interview stage, competing for 1,800 available positions.

“The difference in the two figures comes from applicants who did not turn up for the interview or did not meet the well-stated criteria for the screening,” he explained.

Providing a breakdown, he stated that of the 4,163 candidates screened, 2,169 are females and 1,994 are males. He added that 2,252 applicants (54.10%) were interviewed for STEM subjects.

Taoheed reaffirmed that the commission is committed to ensuring a transparent and merit-based selection process.

He assured that successful candidates would be contacted after due diligence is completed, with the final stage being the NDLEA-approved drug test.

“From the CBT to the interview stage, the process has produced very brilliant and suitable candidates. We wish we could take everyone who scaled through, but we are limited to 1,800 new hires in this phase,” he said.

“Regardless, our decision will be guided by merit, equity, and our needs assessment across the 16 local governments.”
