Teenager drowns in Abuja stadium swimming pool
Matthew Godwin, 13, has drowned in the swimming pool of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
The sad scenario occurred, Tuesday, May 3, 2022, during the sallah festive period.
The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Thursday announced an immediate close down of the facility till further notice.
The decision of the government was included in a statement, which was signed by the Director (Press and Public Relations) in the ministry, Mohammed Manga.
“All activities within the pool area are therefore suspended till further notice.
“The Ministry has ordered a full-scale investigation into the immediate and remote causes of the incident and the activities that led to it in a bid to forestall a future recurrence,” the statement added.
