Taraba: Troops neutralise bandit, recover AK-47 in successful operation

Troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke have successfully neutralised a suspected bandit and recovered an AK-47 rifle in the Kwesati community of Ussa local government area, Taraba State.

This operation is part of an ongoing effort to clear the region of bandits, terrorists, and other criminal elements. The operation was prompted by credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected bandits, leading the troops to establish a tactical position along a suspected crossing route.

“Acting on credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected bandits, troops stationed at Kwesati swiftly deployed and tactically established a position along a suspected crossing route,” stated Captain Olubodunde Oni, the Brigade’s Public Relations Officer.

During the encounter, the troops engaged the bandits with superior firepower. “The intensity of the engagement forced the bandits to flee in disarray, with several suspected to have escaped into the surrounding forest with gunshot wounds. One bandit was neutralised during the encounter,” the statement detailed.

Following the operation, troops conducted a thorough search of the area and recovered one AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine with three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle, and two mobile phones.

Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, the Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism. He reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to sustained operations until all threats are eliminated from the state.

“I encourage members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support our ongoing efforts in ridding the state of criminal elements,” he added.

This successful operation demonstrates the ongoing commitment of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS to ensure the safety and security of communities across Taraba State.
