Taiwo Awoniyi’s Coach gives update on his injury
Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo has provided an update on the injury status of the Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
Recall that Awoniyi recently suffered a serious injury after colliding with the post during a match against Leicester City at the City Ground, resulting in a ruptured intestine.
The striker, who consequently underwent an abdominal surgery, was later placed in a medically induced coma.
The club later confirmed that the forward underwent successful surgery.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of Forest’s upcoming clash with West Ham United, Espírito Santo shared positive news regarding Awoniyi’s recovery.
He said “His surgery went well, and he’s under observation now. He’s still recovering, and we have to wait for the doctors to allow visits. But his family is there with him. We are concerned, but we are positive”
He added “It’s been very difficult on us, and everybody with the injury and the situation he has been through. It’s been a difficult week with the absence of T(sic)and the effect on the group. “
“It would change everything if he was with us, but we have to move forward and prepare for the game, which is what we’re doing.
Nuno further said “We know that he is well, he just needs time, I hope by next week he can be around and join us, because believe me he’s a wonderful boy. And this season has been so hard on him, so hard on him that we feel so sorry. “
Forest will host Chelsea in their final game of the campaign, and the club hopes Awoniyi will be fit enough to be part of the squad for the crucial encounter.
