Suspects arrested as NAFDAC uncovers illegal herbal medicine factory in Abuja

National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control on Wednesday said it has dismantled an illegal herbal medicine factory in Mararaba, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

NAFDAC, via its X handle, disclosed that its men, while acting on a tip, discovered the production of hazardous, unregistered herbal mixtures capable of causing severe health issues, including liver cirrhosis and kidney failure.

It added that the facility, located at Amina Plaza, was sealed, and the suspects were arrested in connection.

Meanwhile, the herbalist of the said factory, while claiming that his products were sourced from Ogun State, stated that his products were effective and had not harmed anyone despite operating for over six months.

He also admitted to purchasing products with fake NAFDAC numbers from Onitsha but denied producing items with those numbers.
