Subsidy: Kwara govt procures 100 electric motorcycles to ease mobility
The Kwara government has said it has procured 100 electric motorcycles as part of a program to ease the mobility challenges in the state.
The Commissioner of Works and Transport Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo made this known on Friday while featuring on Diamond FM’s breakfast show in Ilorin, the state capital.
Olodo said the decision of the state government is in response to the impact of subsidy removal on transportation, adding that the state is also collaborating with the Presidential Initiative Committee on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to secure CNG buses and conversion assistance further to expand sustainable and affordable transportation options for residents.
The Commissioner, while highlighting the success recorded in road rehabilitation and upgrading, said that although the government cannot fix all roads at once gradually, it would cover all nooks and crannies of the state.
The Commissioner noted that residents of the state would benefit from infrastructural upgrades aimed at re-establishing the State as a top destination for industrialisation and development, adding that every part of the state would be included in the urban renewal drive presently ongoing across the nooks and crannies of the state.
Olododo also disclosed that Governor AbdulRazaq-led state government has also facilitated ongoing work on an additional 280 km of road projects across the state through the federal government, saying these efforts are part of a broader strategy to not only enhance connectivity but also to boost industrial and economic growth across the state.
Olododo, however, called on citizens to take responsibility for protecting the infrastructure being provided, emphasising that community ownership is essential to ensure the projects serve their purpose for years to come.
He said the state is fixing roads and paving the way for a brighter, more prosperous future for every citizen.
