Strong performance recorded as NECO releases 2025 SSCE results
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the results of the 2025 internal Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), with a notable 60.26 percent of candidates achieving five credits and above, including Mathematics and English.
Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, while disclosing the figures during a press conference, said, “We are proud to report that a total of 818,492 candidates out of 1,367,210 registered achieved this milestone,” said Professor Wushishi.
He detailed that the registration included 685,514 male candidates and 681,696 female candidates, with 1,358,339 actually sitting for the examination.
The results showed that 1,144,496 candidates, representing 84.26 percent, scored five credits regardless of Mathematics and English. “This reflects a strong performance overall,” he noted.
However, the Registrar also addressed some challenges faced during the examination period. He stated, “Due to a communal clash in Lamorde LGA of Adamawa State, we are withholding the results from eight schools, affecting 13 subjects and 29 papers. We are in communication with the government to ensure that affected students have the opportunity to complete their exams.”
In dealing with integrity issues, Professor Wushishi mentioned that 38 schools across 13 states will face inquiries regarding mass cheating. He emphasized, “We take these matters seriously and will invite these schools to the Council Headquarters for necessary actions.” Additionally, he revealed that nine supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision and other misconducts, citing the need for accountability.
