‘Step forward and contest’ Kwara women urges Prof. Wale Sulaiman to join 2027 Kwara guber race
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, some women, under the aegies Kwara Integrity Women Association (KIWA) has formally called on renowned neurosurgeon and technocrat, Professor Wale Sulaiman, CON, to offer himself for the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group made the appeal on Tuesday during a press conference held in Ilorin,.
They described Prof. Sulaiman as a leader of vision, integrity and proven competence, capable of sustaining and deepening the state’s current development trajectory.
Speaking on behalf of the association, KIWA Chairperson, Hon. Hajia Aminat Folake Yusuf, said Kwara stood at a critical juncture where leadership quality would determine the future of governance, economic growth and social stability, noting that the call for Prof. Sulaiman’s candidacy had grown organically across homes, markets and communities in the state.
According to KIWA, Prof. Sulaiman’s professional background as a globally respected neurosurgeon, academic, physician executive and philanthropist distinguishes him as a merit-driven leader with vast experience in institutional management.
The association highlighted his successful leadership of major healthcare institutions in the United States, where he reportedly transformed underperforming systems into nationally ranked centres while managing large workforces and multimillion-dollar budgets.
“This is the calibre of leadership Kwara State deserves,” Yusuf said, adding that Prof. Sulaiman’s understanding of governance and party structures within the APC positions him as a capable successor who can consolidate existing gains.
The group stressed its desire for continuity of what it described as good governance under the current administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, particularly in areas of education, healthcare, rural development, infrastructure, youth empowerment and job creation.
KIWA further outlined key expectations for the next administration, including improved security, transparent and inclusive governance, economic revitalisation, infrastructure development, accessible healthcare, potable water supply, quality education and food security.
The association expressed confidence that Prof. Sulaiman’s academic depth and pragmatic leadership style would prioritise these sectors.
“This call is not merely political,” Yusuf said. “It is rooted in a maternal and communal instinct to support the most qualified steward for our collective future.”
They appealed to Prof. Wale Sulaiman to heed their call and contest the 2027 governorship election, describing the call as urgent and the choice as clear.
“We raise our voices not in protest, but in hope and invitation. We call on Prof Wale Sulaiman to heed this heartfelt appeal from the women of Kwara; the backbone of our communities, to step forward and run for Governor of Kwara State in the forthcoming 2027 Gubernatorial election under the umbrella of the All-Progressives Congress (APC).
“The time is now. The need is urgent. The choice is Professor Sulaiman, CON,” the statement declared.
It would be recalled that some group under the aegies of Kwara Youth Progressives Network few weeks ago had also earlier called on Professor Wale to throw his hat into the ring for the 2027 governorship election of Kwara State.
The Informant247 reports that Professor Sulaiman, a neurosurgeon and philanthropist hails from Ajase-Ipo in Irepodun local government area of Kwara State. He formerly served as the Special Adviser on Health Matters to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
Professor Sulaiman is also the current Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun in Osun State.
