Salesman appears in court over alleged stealing of N1.7m recharge cards

Samuel Williams, on Wednesday appeared in court over alleged stealing of recharger cards valued at N1.7 million which belonged to his boss.

The 35-year-old salesman was arraigned before a Kaduna Chief Magistrate’s Court over alleged stealing of recharger cards valued at N1.7 million which belonged to his employer.

Williams, who lives in Barnawa area in Kaduna, has been charged with stealing and breach of trust.

Insp. Chidi Leo, who’s the prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant carried out the offence around July and September at Barnawa complex Kaduna.

The prosecutor said the defendant was engaged by Mr Nurudeen Ayodele, the complainant, as a salesperson for his business of recharge card.

Leo said that the complainant noticed that the defendant was not able to remit the required proceeds to the employer.

He informed the court that it was later noticed that the defendant had illegally taken recharge cards valued at N1.7million from the complainant.

Leo said the offence was in contravention of the Section 312 and 271 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

When the matter was read to the defendant, he however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Ibrahim Emmanuel, the Magistrate, admitted that the defendant to N500, 000 bail plus two sureties in like sum.

He revealed that the sureties should have reliable source of income and present evidence of three years’ tax payment to the State Government.

The matter has been adjourned until December 18, for hearing.
