Rivers impeachment drama deepens as 4 lawmakers make u-turn, rejoin plot to oust Fubara, Odu

The impeachment crisis rocking Rivers State took a dramatic twist on Friday as four lawmakers who had earlier withdrawn their support for the removal of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, reversed course and rejoined the impeachment move.

The lawmakers — Minority Leader Sylvanus Nwankwo (Omuma), Peter Abbey (Degema), Deputy Minority Leader Barile Nwakoh (Khana I), and Emilia Amadi (Obio/Akpor II) — had previously urged the House to halt the impeachment process, citing the need for caution.

However, at a press conference in Port Harcourt, the quartet said Governor Fubara failed to offer convincing reasons for them to sustain their earlier stance, noting that the issues prompting the impeachment bid remained unresolved.

They explained that the governor’s actions had not sufficiently addressed their concerns, forcing them to return to the impeachment camp.

Meanwhile, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly reaffirmed their determination to continue with the impeachment process, insisting that removing the governor and his deputy was necessary to avert an imminent breakdown of law and order in the state.
