RIFAN reaffirms commitment to strengthening rice production in Kwara

The Kwara state chapter of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing rice production during a recent courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Afees Abolore Alabi.

In his address, Dr. Alabi praised the dedication of the State’s rice farmers and reiterated the administration’s commitment to advancing the rice value chain. “The growth and success of rice production in Kwara is a testament to the hard work of our farmers and the unwavering support from our esteemed Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq,” he stated, highlighting the governor’s pivotal role in making Kwara Nigeria’s leading rice-producing State.

Dr. Alabi also addressed ongoing challenges such as flooding and weather-related issues, emphasizing the government’s proactive measures to better plan planting schedules. He announced that preparations for the 2025 planting season are already in progress, with necessary inputs beginning to arrive.

Alh. Musa Baba Mohammed, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Agriculture, encouraged farmers to stay proactive and collaborate with the Ministry to sustain progress.

RIFAN Chairman, Mallam Soliu Mohammed, expressed gratitude for the government’s impactful support, noting that the rice community in Kwara has become stronger due to various government interventions. As a gesture of appreciation, the association recently delivered 100 bags of rice to the State Government.

Engr. Dr. Olaitan Balogun, Chairman of RIFAN’s Board of Trustees, echoed the sentiment, reaffirming the association’s commitment to maintaining its leadership in rice production while working alongside the State’s agricultural development agenda.

With officials from the Ministry also in attendance, the visit underscored the collaborative efforts to boost rice production through sustainable and innovative practices, positioning Kwara to lead Nigeria’s agricultural revolution and enhance food security.
