Reps to NERC: Don’t approve electricity tariff increase
The House of Representatives on Thursday, directed the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) not to approve the proposed increase in electricity tariffs.
It was gathered that the lower legislative chamber passed the resolution during a plenary session, following the adoption of a motion which was sponsored by a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) from Kano, Sani Madaki.
The reports had past weeks, spread that electricity tariffs would be increased by 40 percent due to spiralling petrol prices, saying the said increment was contingent on the 2022 multi-year tariff order (MYTO), which is due for a bi-annual review this month.
