Relief in Ilorin as rainfall ends four-week drought
There is a huge relief in Ilorin metropolis as rainfall hit the capital city on Monday morning.
The rain which began around 10 a.m. and lasted for about an hour, ended a prolonged dry spell of rain which last occurred on Friday, July 19, 2024.
The downpour, which is expected to bring succour and respite from the heat and alleviate concerns of farmers in the affected areas had earlier hit some part of the metropolis over the night on Monday.
Religious establishments have, on the heels of the drought, offered prayers for the rain to fall following its negative impacts on agricultural activities, water resource management, and environmental activities.
Farmers are the most hit with the drought, as many expressed worries about its impact on their plantations and harvest, even as the accompanied weather condition also brought about a relatively unusual cold weather due to the failure of the rain to fall despite apparent cloudy sky.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) had in February this year predicted a late onset of rainfall, especially in the northern part of Nigeria, which also includes Kwara.
