Rap still alive, doing well — M.I Abaga replies Wizkid

The popular Nigerian rapper, M.I Abaga, has said that rap is still growing and recording success in the music industry.

The veteran rapper said the genre of music is still alive and that Nigerian rappers need to work harder to move the genre of music forward.

This could be a response to the controversial opinion of the popular Nigerian musician, Wizkid, which states that rap is dead, and boring to him.

Wizkid has said that he does not listen to rap songs any longer because it is “dead and boring”.

Reacting, M.I Abaga said Nigerian rappers did really well this year (2022) and that it is not dead.

He added that despite the fact that most Afrobeats stars are much popular than rappers, rappers need to be much focused and develop the genre of music.

M.I wrote: “The energy around HIPHOP right now feels right.. I know most rappers are still not the most popular yet.. but right now is time for us to focus on the craft.. just keep getting better.. this year we did so well as a genre and next year we grow!!!! ????”
