Qatar 2022: The fight for round of 16 tickets in Group A and the stakes
It’s going to be a fight to finish in the final group stage matches for Group A as team sets out to scoop the round of 16 ticket.
That Netherlands are largely in control of Group A, they would need to just avoid defeat against the already eliminated hosts, Qatar in their final group stage match on Tuesday.
The Dutch will also reach the round of 16 if Ecuador beat Senegal, who have to win otherwise the AFCON winner will rely on an unlikely win for Qatar over the Netherlands to remain in the picture of the mundial.
For Ecuador, who have impressed in their first two games, a must win or draw against Senegal will see them progress to the next round. However, in a twist of things, the Gustavo Alfaro’s men could also scale through in defeat if Qatar beat the Netherlands.
A win for Senegal over Ecuador will also place them in a vantage point against whatever the result of the game between Netherlands and Qatar.
Currently, Netherlands are topping the table with four points, followed by Ecuador who have the same points. Senegal has three while Qatar has none going in to the final group stage game
