Provide relief for victims of banditry in Kaduna, Reps urge FG
The House of Representatives has urged Federal Government to intervene by providing relief materials to victims of banditry, and kidnappings in Kaduna State.
This followed the adoption of a motion by Rep. Shehu Balarabe (APC-Kaduna) at the plenary on Thursday in Abuja.
Presenting the motion, Balarabe said that attacks, killings, and kidnappings of people as well as destruction of property by suspected bandits in the state has taken awful dimension and has become a daily affair in Giwa/Birnin Gwari Federal Constituency.
He added that suspected bandits had displaced most communities in the area, adding that the attacks were being carried out day and night.
Balarabe said that over 60 communities have been displaced in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area (LGA) of the state alone.
He listed some of the communities to include; Gayam, Magajin Gari 1, Magajin Gari 2, and Magajin Gari 3 wards, with over 99,792 persons displaced.
He added that over 2, 650 persons were also displaced in Kuyello district comprising of Kuyello, Dogon Dawa, Kazage, Tabanni, and Kutemeshi wards with over 63,983 displaced.
The lawmaker said that 42 communities were affected in Giwa LGA of the state.
He said that in Fatika District some of the communities affected were; Kauran Pawa, Bataro, Kwanar-Bataro, Ruheya Doka, Madugu, Kanawa, Anguwan Baushe, Anguwan Aiba, Hayin Gazari, Karofi, Anguwan Wakili.
“Others include Makera, Anguwan Zangon Tama, Anguwan Murtala, Anguwan Dokan Liman, Anguwan Lalli wards with over 12,152 persons displaced,” he said.
The House, therefore, urged the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, the National Emergency Management Agency, and the National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons to intervene by providing relief materials to the victims.
The House also mandated its Committee on Emergency and Disaster preparedness to ensure compliance. (NAN)
