Police repatriate wanted Chinese fugitive seeking refuge in Nigeria

The Nigeria Police Force has successfully repatriated Mr. Dai Qisheng, a notorious Chinese fugitive, to the People’s Republic of China following his arrest in Abuja.

Qisheng, who is wanted in Guizhou Province for orchestrating violent organized crimes, fled China in 2024 after a warrant for his arrest was issued by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County.

After seeking refuge in Nigeria, he was apprehended by operatives of the INTERPOL National Central Bureau Abuja during a special operation on August 8, 2025.

A statement released by the Force spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, revealed that Qisheng was repatriated to Beijing on August 15, 2025, as part of a police-to-police cooperation initiative coordinated by INTERPOL.

In the statement, Adejobi highlighted the significance of this operation, saying, “The Nigeria Police Force, in a landmark operation executed through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau Abuja, has successfully repatriated a high-profile fugitive.” He emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to combating transnational organized crime.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, also commented on the arrest, stating that it is a strong indication that Nigeria will not serve as a haven for international fugitives.

He affirmed, “This operation reaffirms the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to ensure that no fugitive finds a safe haven within Nigeria,” reinforcing the nation’s dedication to fostering international partnerships to tackle global crime effectively.

This successful operation sends a clear message to criminals worldwide: the Federal Republic of Nigeria is determined not to be a hiding place for fugitives.
