Police mourn as AIG Lawan Jimeta dies after brief illness

An Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, Lawan Jimeta, is dead.

The late AIG gave up the ghost on Sunday morning at the Benin Teaching Hospital, Edo State following a brief illness.

The spokesperson of the Bauchi State Police,
Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the death of the AIG in a short statement released through WhatsApp.

“With a heavy heart but total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, I wish to announce the death of A.I.G LAWAN TANKO JIMETA,” he wrote.

“AIG died in the teaching hospital, Benin Edo State this morning after a brief illness, to Allah we belong to him we returned.

“May almighty Allah forgive his shortcoming and reward him aljannatul fiddausi. May he give the families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

The deceased police officer was the AIG in charge of zone 5 ( Edo, Bayelsa, and Delta).

He has once been the commissioner of police in Edo and Bauchi.

He had served as personal assistant to the AIG of police, and served in several other capacities.

He studied English language at the University of Maiduguri and had a masters degree in peace and conflict studies at the National Open University (NOUN)

He began work as a police officer on March 3, 1990.

He was given birth to on September 9, 1964 in Jimeta, Yola north LGA of Adamawa state.
