Police apprehend 4 suspected kidnappers, recover weapons in Ogun
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspected kidnappers who have allegedly been terrorising Abeokuta and its surrounding environs.
The spokesperson of police command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, made this revelation in a statement released in Abeokuta, the state capital on Wednesday.
Oyeyemi disclosed that the suspects, 21 year old Ismaila Ibrahim, 26 year old Musa Muhammed, 43 year old Irekura Abu, and 26 year old Okanlawon Muhammed were apprehended after series of cases of kidnap at Soyooye and Ibara Orile area of Abeokuta have surfaced.
The spokesperson noted that Commissioner of Police in the State Lanre Bankole, ordered that the anti-kidnapping rescue team of the police command to occupy the affected area and catch the perpetrators.
“In compliance with the commissioner’s directive, the Superintendent of Police, Taiwo Opadiran-led team embarked on technical and intelligence based investigation.
“This led them to one of the suspects Abu, who was later discovered to be the supplier of guns to the hoodlums.
“The arrest of one of the suspects led to the arrest of Muhammed while he was coming out from their hideout to buy food for their victims and members of the gang.
“The suspects confessed to be members of a kidnap gang who were responsible for the abduction of one Bishop Oladimeji Joshua of prayer city, Keesan Abeokuta, on Sept. 22.
“They also informed the police that they were responsible for the kidnap of one Kafayat Jelili of Ogo Titun area of Ibara Orile on Sept. 27,” he said.
Oyeyemi also said that their alleged confession of the arrested suspects assisted the arrest of the remaining two suspected kidnappers, Ibrahim and Okanlawon Muhammed.
He said some items were recovered from them which included one single barrel long gun and 2 double barrel guns.
The spokesperson noted that the CP had directed that the suspects be dragged to court as soon as police investigation was finalized.
He also ordered the police command officers to go after the remaining members of the gang who have reportedly absconded, with the aim of bringing them to Justice.
