Patigi Bye-Elction: 43,695 PVCs collected – INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Kwara State has said 52,233 electorates now have Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the Saturday’s Patigi constituency state House of Assembly bye-election.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kwara State, Mallam Garba Attahiru-Madami said this at a press conference in Ilorin on Wednesday.
He said about 43,695 voters have collected Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) while 7,781 cards are yet to be collected which he said is with Central Bank of Nigeria.
“There are 10 wards,59 polling Units,52,333 registered voters, we have 51,471 Permanent Voters Card while 43,695 have collected their PVCs. The remaining 7,781 cards are with CBN,” he disclosed.
He added that, eight political parties registered to participate in the exercise while 6 emerged after the primary elections.
According to him, they are All Progressive Congress(A PC),People’s Democratic Party(PDP),New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP),Action Alliance(AA),African Democratic Congress(ADC),African Action Congress(AAC) Action People’s Party(APP) and Allied People’s Movement(APM).
Madami further said the exercise would take place at 10 wards of the Local Government Area.
He noted that it has become imperative to use the card readers during the exercise adding that provision has been made for backup card reader machines if one malfunction.
The state INEC boss said the Commission had met with the security agencies in ensuring free, fair and credible election come Saturday.
Madami said 451 personnel would be used for the exercise, adding that the sensitive materials would be distributed on Thursday.
