Parading suspects before court trial unconstitutional, illegal – NHRC

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), has said that it is not legal to parade suspects that have not been convicted by the court.

The commission has implored the Nigeria Police Force, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other security agencies to desist from the unconstitutional act.

The Executive Secretary of the human rights organization, Tony Ojukwu, while speaking to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja, assured that the commission would drag the police and other security agencies to court for the unlawful acts.

He revealed that even the Court had also spoken against such act of parading pre-trial suspects.

He said the commission is dissatisfied seeing people whose rights have been encroached upon, walked away and forgot everything immediately they were set free on bail.

“Let me put it on record that anybody who has suffered that kind of treatment can approach the commission and together, we will follow up the case till we get justice,” he assured.
