Oyetola tasks Igbo community on peaceful coexistence
Osun state governor, Gboyega Oyetola has expressed his satisfaction with quality of work as he inspected Olaiya flyover in Osogbo.
Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State, on Thursday, encouraged members of the Igbo community residing in the state to continue to give room for peaceful coexistence with the host communities.
Oyetola expressed this while having an engagement meeting with the newly elected executives of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Osun chapter in Osogbo.
The governor was represented at the meeting by his Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Mr. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye.
He said that people of different tribes feel safe in any part of the country they reside in only when there is peace.
The governor, appreciated members of the group for keeping their residences safe and peaceful, as he promised to continue to protect their interests.
Oyetola said: “Nigeria is a great and prosperous country. And for us to continue to enjoy this greatness, there must be peace and stability in the land.
“Intolerance and insurgency leads to poverty, hunger, unemployment, unrest, among others, and that is the reason we must continue to live together peacefully.
“Peaceful coexistence will bring stability, growth and make the economy vibrant, while the lack of it will bring underdevelopment and unrest.
“You are an important part of us in this state. And I will continue to provide the enabling environment for your businesses to grow.”
The governor also persuaded the Ndigbo to lend support to his re-election in the forthcoming July 16 governorship election in the state, so as to consolidate on the achievements of the past years.
While reacting, the president of the group, John Dike, appreciated the governor for his human love, which contributes to the continued peacefulness of the state, without tribal riots.
Dike added that their businesses had been blossoming well as a result of timely payment of workers’ salaries.
He also appreciated the governor for many developmental projects across the state, assuring that the group would continue to live peacefully live with other tribes and also give the necessary support to the governor for his re-election.
