Over 100 students trained in Ilorin through SAS foundation’s summer school project

The Saleeman Adedoyin Saleeman (SAS) Foundation, in partnership with international NGOs Evergreen Initiative and SheBuildLives, has successfully concluded its intensive Summer School Project, tagged Project Tutored, which trained more than 100 students from underserved communities in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The three-week programme, held between July 28 and August 17, 2025, was designed to provide academic reinforcement, vocational skills, and essential learning resources to children from low-income backgrounds. Students received training in digital literacy, leadership, career sensitisation, sports, financial literacy, counselling, and soft skills. They also participated in hands-on vocational workshops such as shoe making, bead making, tie-and-dye (adire and kampala), and soap production.

Global IT leader and philanthropist, Engr. Saleeman Adedoyin Saleeman, introduced the initiative to empower rural students with practical skills and mentorship opportunities. Supported by 30 volunteers, the programme ensured that participants not only acquired knowledge but also built confidence in applying their new skills.

Speaking during an interaction with students and volunteers, Engr. Adedoyin commended participants for their commitment and assured them of continuous support.

“An idle mind is the devil’s workshop. That’s why we decided, with our partners, to equip these young people with the skills they need to be self-reliant,” he said.

He urged the students to serve as ambassadors of the SAS Foundation, adding that they would be given priority in future initiatives, including the soon-to-be-launched SAS Foundation Scholarship Programme, which will provide full scholarships for Kwara students.

The Project Coordinator, Mr. Saheed Saliu, praised the founder for his commitment to community development. He noted that examinations conducted during the programme reflected remarkable improvement in the students’ performance. He further disclosed that products made by the students—including beads, soaps, and tie-and-dye fabrics—were showcased at an exhibition to mark the project’s conclusion.

Parents, community leaders, and participants expressed appreciation to the foundation, highlighting the programme’s positive impact on both academics and personal development.

Recalls that the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Council of Chiefs, HRH Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, recently described Engr. Adedoyin as a “shining example of Ilorin’s promising future,” lauding his dedication to humanitarian service and community upliftment.
