Olawoyin’s Death: APC leaders declare support for Oba Magaji Abdulqadir

Members and stakeholders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ilorin West local government have declared support for the brother of Oba Abdulqadir Magaji, the late Hon Magaji Olawoyin, to stand as the flagbearer of the party for Magaji Ngeri Constituency ahead of March House of Assembly election.
The Kwara State Chapter of the party will on Saturday, January 21, 2023 conduct another primary election to choose a replacement for the late Hon. Magaji Olawoyin.
The Informant247 earlier reported the death of Hon Olawoyin Mogaji, the Leader of the 9th Kwara House of Assembly, January 9, 2023.
Report has it that the political figure gave up the ghost after a long protracted illness.
The Informant247 also recalls that the Electoral Act spells out that there should be a replacement of candidates in the case of the death of candidates within 14 days.
A reliable source revealed “Ilorin West APC stakeholders committee chaired by Barr. Kunle Suleiman, with Hajia Bilikisu Ebira, Engr. Hassan Laro, Alhaji Faari Babtunde, Mrs. Toyin Balogun, Mr. Abdullahi Baboko, Iya Lamule, Alhaja Ayo Agbabiaka, Ibrahim Kale Jimoh among others sat and convened a candidate selection committee, saddled with the responsibility of screening and recommending a replacement was set up.
“The committee which was chaired by Hon. Soliu Bamidele Aluko had Baba Eleyin as Secretary while Alhaji Ibraheem, Alhaji Kawu Fada and Wonder as members respectively.
“The committee on compassionate grounds unanimously recommended the younger brother of the deceased Barr. Abdulkadir Mogaji Olawoyin, as the consensus candidate to replace his brother as the flag bearer of the party, a recommendation which was signed by 4 out of the 5 members of the committee” the source added.
It was gathered that many of the leaders and stakeholders agree with the recommendation of the deceased politician.
The stakeholders however maintained that there should be a primary election to formalize the recommendation through primary election in respect of the provisions of new electoral act.
A source revealed that some minority group of the Barr. Kunle Suleiman chaired stakeholders were not comfortable with the recommendation of the Olawoyin’s brother as the flagbearer of the party.
The state’s chapter of the party has made public the arrangements for a peaceful selection of the candidate.
The party ordered all interested candidates to make a payment for expression of interest and form fees into the bank account and present the evidence of payment to the state Party Secretariat to get nomination forms.
The delegates and Primary Election are to take place on Friday and Saturday respectively.
Oba Abdulqadir Magaji was born on March 15, 1969.
He obtained a degree in Law from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and was called to bar in 2000.
He’s a member Nigerian Bar Association, International Bar Association, Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria and Institute of Arbitrators (UK).
He’s the Managing Partner of Magaji Gari & co chamber and notary public of the Supreme Court.
