Nutrition expert emphasises benefit of adequate meals
Mrs Jamila Adamu Gene, the Nutrition Desk Officer at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, has emphasised the importance of creating adequate meals without straining the household budget.
Mrs Gene stated this on Tuesday while discussing “Preparation Tips for Affordable and Nutritious Meals” on Midland FM 99.1, a programme sponsored by the Kwara State Ministry of Communications.
The Nutrition Desk Officer, while highlighting that with proper planning and resource management, families can enjoy a diet rich in essential nutrients, added that healthy eating is not about expensive ingredients but has to do with making informed choices, using locally available food and planning.

To assist listeners in achieving this goal, Mrs Gene walked them through a comprehensive week-long meal timetable designed to ensure adequate nutrition for all family members, with each day featuring a balanced mix of carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, and minerals, incorporating staple foods such as rice, yam, beans, vegetables and fruits.
The Nutrition Desk Officer also provided practical tips on food storage to prevent waste, meal portioning to avoid excess and creative ways to repurpose leftovers, encouraging listeners to implement the suggested meal timetable and share their experiences in future programmes.
