NPFL: Kwara United Outshines Shooting Stars in Ilorin
The Harmony Boys on Sunday showed class and high sense of resolve when they defeated Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan 3-1 in a game played behind closed doors at the Kwara State Stadium Complex.
Both sides had started the game with some level of caution- but it was the homeside’s game plan that hit the target in the 39th minutes when Samad Kadiri opened the scoreline for them as his shot in the box found its way in to the net-cropping in between Detan Ogundare’s legs.
Coming back from the break, Kwara United continued their impressive show and their dominance didn’t fail to hand them the second goal of the game in 58th minutes when Alao Danbani set up Issa Gata- who in turn slotted home a cool finish to get his first goal of the season.
Malomo Taofeek was on hand in the cutting edge of the visitors to pull off trouble strings for the Oluyole Warriors but would intermittently had a tough time dealing with a ‘proactive’ pairing of Deji Bamidele and Isiah Ejeh in the defense of the hosts.
Like he did earlier, Danbani grilled his way off his marker in the 69th minutes and get a decoy across to Ayobami Junior who wasted no time to flash home the third goal against his former team.
Kwara United were however put to a huge test and scare towards the end of the game as the Edith Agoye’s side pushed them to the limit of their stretch.
The pressure from the visitors would eventually got them a consolation goal in the stroke of the end of the regulation time when Opeoluwa Olufemi rubbled home a goal from a loosed ball in the box of the homeside.
Recall that the first leg of the game had ended in favour of the Ibadan based when they came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory to the amazement of their fans.
With the result, Kwara United now occupies 5th position on the log with 43 points while Shooting Stars also remained unshakened in 11th position with 37 points.
While the Abdullahi Biffo led side will be on the road to face Gombe United in the NPFL matchday 29, Shooting Stars will be playing host to MFM FC in a south west derby.
