Northern outage: 70% resolved, power to be fully restored by Sunday – information minister
The Nigerian government has assured the public that full power restoration in the northern region will be completed by Sunday, November 3.
According to the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, 70% of the restoration work has already been achieved, allowing partial power supply to resume in the affected areas.
Speaking at the National Communications Team meeting in Abuja, Minister Idris updated Nigerians on ongoing efforts to repair sections of two vandalized power lines, with restoration progress currently at 70%.
He emphasized that the government expects full power restoration by Sunday.
The minister also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to power infrastructure.
He stated that despite increased awareness efforts, no reports of vandalism have been received yet.
He also noted that President Bola Tinubu has instructed security agencies to heighten their vigilance and work round-the-clock to protect the nation’s power assets, warning that the government will not tolerate any further disruptions.
“The security agencies have been charged to ensure that such incidents do not recur,” Idris added.
