NNPP crisis deepens as faction expels Kwankwaso
The crisis of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) took a new twist on Tuesday, as the factional BoT expelled the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The Informant247 had gathered last Tuesday that the NNPP’s board of trustees (BoT), led by Boniface Aniebonam, founder of the party, suspended Kwankwaso over allegations of anti-party activities.
Meanwhile, a faction of the party loyal to Kwankwaso reversed the suspension. The party’s national executive council had also set up a disciplinary committee to probe allegations of anti-party activities and mismanagement of party funds against Kwankwaso.
However, the former Kano state governor was directed to appear before the committee within five days of getting the invitation.
The NEC had warned that Kwankwaso would be expelled in line with the provisions of the NNPP’s constitution if he failed to appear before the disciplinary committee.
However, in a statement released Tuesday, Abdulsalam Abdulrasaq, NNPP’s acting national publicity secretary, said NEC resolved to expel him because he refused to honour the committee’s invitation.
The statement reads, “Following the refusal of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to appear before the Disciplinary Committee, which sat on Thursday 31st August 2023 after being duly invited in writing, he is at this moment expelled from New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) with immediate effect.”
The statement added that Kwankwaso would be reported to appropriate quarters to answer questions on “financial impropriety relating to mismanagement of public funds.”
