NiMet forecasts sunshine, thunderstorms across Nigeria from Wednesday
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released its weather outlook for the week, predicting a mix of sunshine and thunderstorms from Wednesday to Friday across various regions of the country.
On Wednesday, sunny skies are expected over the northern region, with isolated thunderstorms possible in parts of Taraba, Borno, Kaduna, Kebbi, Zamfara, Bauchi, Gombe, and Adamawa during the afternoon and evening hours.
In the North-central region, NiMet anticipates sunny skies with patches of clouds, along with chances for isolated thunderstorms in areas including Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi during the same time frame.
According to the agency, the southern region may experience morning thunderstorms in Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, followed by expected thunderstorms later in the day across several states, including Imo, Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Enugu, Anambra, Edo, and others.
For Thursday, NiMet forecasts sunny skies in the northern region, with a potential for isolated thunderstorms in Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba during the afternoon and evening. Meanwhile, the North-central region is expected to see sunny skies with isolated thunderstorms in Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Niger, Benue, and Kogi. In the south, morning thunderstorms are again anticipated.
On Friday, the agency predicts sunny skies with a few clouds in the northern region, along with potential isolated thunderstorms. The southern region may also see morning thunderstorms, followed by afternoon thunderstorms over multiple states.
NiMet has urged the public to take necessary precautions due to the possibility of strong winds preceding the rains. The agency also recommends that airline operators obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
