Nigerians deserve high-quality education: Activist
Olatunji Hassan Taiye, Director of Volunteers Engagement, Kayode Alabi leadership and career initiative, has condemned the poor state of education in the country, describing education as catalyst for development and growth of the country.
January 24 of every year has been globally set aside as International Day of Education across the world.
It’s a day meant to celebrate the value, impact and the the role of education in enhancing world peace and sustainable development.
While expressing his sincere hope despite the deplorable state of education in the country, he referenced how Nigerian citizens perform excellently in their academics in other countries, especially overseas.
He said, “Nigeria educational system is characterised by poor funding, poor educational infrastructures, inadequate classrooms, inadequate teaching aids, poor laboratories, poor libraries, lack of quality teachers and poor learning environment.
“Education is one of the basic criteria to measure the growth and development of any nation. If you want to destroy a nation kill their Education. OMG Nigeria is dying
“Sometimes I wonder Nigerian student do well abroad, they make exploits and sometimes are one of the best students in Europe and other part of the world but when they are here, they don’t perform up to standard. They are not well utilized and the best in them is not brought out.
“Adequate funding with good management will provide high-quality education in Nigeria. Funds for renovation of schools and institution, acquiring quality training facilities, research grants, decent teachers’ salaries and welfare. Are the things that need to be increased, released and spent appropriately.”
