Nigerian Navy Base warns petrol dealers against smuggling in Badagry

Captain Adams Aliu, the Commanding Officer of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) of the Nigerian Navy in Badagry, has issued a stern warning to petroleum dealers in the town regarding the smuggling of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to neighboring countries.

He delivered this warning during a stakeholder meeting with the Petroleum Dealers Association, Badagry Chapter, held at the Base office.

Captain Aliu emphasized that if the Federal Government decides that petrol intended for the Nigerian market should be sold exclusively in Nigeria, he could not turn a blind eye when individuals transport it across waterways to neighboring nations.

He expressed the need to investigate the origin, destination, and purpose of these petrol shipments carried in jerrycans.

Addressing the petroleum dealers in Badagry, Captain Aliu highlighted their crucial role in the supply chain.

He pointed out that he, as the Commanding Officer, could not access petrol in the area except by visiting local filling stations within Badagry.

Therefore, the responsibility for explaining how petrol reaches neighboring countries lies with the dealers who receive supplies from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Captain Aliu noted that smuggling petrol out of the country had detrimental effects on the nation’s economy and urged marketers to refrain from engaging in such practices.

He stressed the importance of cooperation to prevent illicit activities at the border and ensure national economic stability.
