Nigerian journalist, Dare Akogun, emerges runner up at 2025 Kwame Karikari OSINT Awards

Nigerian-based Award-winning journalist Dare Akogun, affectionately known as DaRadioGeneral, has received the runner-up award in the Best Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), Anglophone category at the 2025 Kwame Karikari Awards, held on Friday in Abuja.

Akogun is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s world-class investigative, environmental, and developmental journalist. He currently serves as the Senior News Editor and Head of Digital Media Unit at Sobi FM, Ilorin, in addition to being the Publisher of DA News, a platform dedicated to climate advocacy and literary promotion. He also works as a news correspondent for Punch Newspapers.

He was honoured for his outstanding use of OSINT methodologies, including digital verification, data analysis, and real-time monitoring, to drive impactful investigations. The award panel noted that his work consistently reflects precision, ethical responsibility, and a strong commitment to public-interest journalism.

Organisers of the ceremony highlighted that the recognition celebrates “Akogun’s dedication to preserving the integrity of information, empowering citizens with verified facts, and strengthening accountability in public life through technology-driven reporting”.

Officials at the event praised him for demonstrating “how responsible digital investigation can effectively counter misinformation and illuminate issues that matter to everyday people,” underscoring the rising importance of OSINT in modern journalism.

The award, presented as part of the 2025 Media Development Conference by the Center for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), further positions Akogun among Africa’s leading investigative journalists contributing to a more transparent and informed society.
