NDLEA seizes explosive devices, illicit drugs in multiple operations

In a series of operations, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have made significant seizures and arrests.


They recovered a staggering 399 improvised explosive devices from a suspect named Asana Leke, who was found along Mokwa-Jebba Road.

These explosives were reportedly intended for delivery in Kaduna. The suspect, alongside the confiscated explosives, has been handed over to military authorities in Niger State for further investigation.

Moreover, the NDLEA intercepted shipments containing illegal substances.

One such interception involved skunk concealed within tomato paste, weighing 20 kilograms, and was discovered at the SAHCO export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.

Another operation led to the seizure of methamphetamine concealed in used clothes meant for export to Dubai. The gross weight of this methamphetamine shipment was 1.60 kilograms.

The NDLEA’s commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking is evident in its various operations.

Efforts extend beyond mere seizures, as the agency continues its advocacy campaigns against drug abuse in schools, places of worship, palaces, and local communities, among other areas.

Several arrests were made in different states as part of these operations. A notorious drug lord in Akala, Mushin, Lagos, known as Abdul Rauf or ‘Na God,’ had his enclave raided by NDLEA operatives.

This operation resulted in the recovery of a massive 1,101 kilograms of Ghanaian Loud. Although three suspects were arrested during the operation, the kingpin himself remains at large.

In Ogun State, Yinka Azeez was apprehended at Sabo Lafenwa, Abeokuta, following the seizure of 41 kilograms of cannabis from Titilayo Adetayo at Sagumu Interchange.

Meanwhile, in Kano, two suspects, Muhammad Aliyu and Abdullahi Zakariya, were arrested with over 426.5 kilograms of skunk. In Anambra State, Onyeka Uzor, 25, was arrested with 64.8 kilograms of skunk and Tramadol.

Another suspect, Destiny Irabor, was nabbed with over 180 kilograms of opioids loaded in his Toyota Sienna bus.

The NDLEA also carried out successful operations in Kaduna, where two suspects, Ahmed Yusuf and Rilwan Nura, were arrested in connection with the seizure of 100 blocks of cannabis weighing 55 kilograms along Abuja road.

In Edo State, the agency destroyed cannabis farms measuring 4.236347 hectares in the Ekudo forest, Onwude Local Government Area. Furthermore, NDLEA operatives arrested a 60-year-old grandma, Mrs. Eunice Egwehide, in Owan West LGA, with 17 kilograms of skunk.

Notably, a suspect named Gapchiya Modu, 26, was arrested with 60 kilograms of cannabis along Kano-Nguru Road, Nguru, Yobe State. In Imo State, 200 blocks of the same substance, weighing 57 kilograms, were recovered from Usim Orji, 45, along Aba-Owerri road.

This seizure was initially made in a container marked MSDU6686346 at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex, Onne, Rivers State, on June 2. Idoko Ifesinachi was apprehended at his hideout in Lagos and subsequently taken to Port Harcourt for further investigation.
