NDLEA nabs ex-footballer for drug trafficking
Operatives of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) has announced the arrest of a former footballer, Okafor Emmanuel for alleged drug trafficking.
In an official statement on its Twitter handle, the agency noted that Emmanuel was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, on his arrival from Sao Paulo, Brazil on board Ethiopian airlines.
Nabbed in possession of 1.40kg crack cocaine concealed in his bags, the indigene of Abia State was caught on Monday, September 26.
“The 33-year old indigene of Arochukwu local government area of Abia State was arrested on Monday 26th of September, 2022 after anti narcotic officers discovered he concealed the illegal substance in his bag and padded top edges of the same with class A drug” the statement said.
According to the NDLEA, Okafor disclosed that he was an ex-footballer with the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu FC, where he played for four seasons before leaving for Sri Lanka in 2014. He further stated that he moved from Brazil to Sri Lanka where he played two seasons but couldn’t advance his football career in Brazil due to official documents.
The NDLEA under Brig. General Buba Marwa (Rtd) has been aggressive in its drive to rid off drug trafficking elements in the country with series of successes it recorded lately.
