NCoS suspends two personnel for attempting to process passport for inmate
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has suspended two of its personnel for attempting to process an international passport for an inmate.
This misconduct was uncovered through the automated passport application system and recent reforms initiated by the Nigeria Immigration Service two weeks ago.
Umar Abubakar, NCoS public relations officer, emphasized that the detection was made possible through robust inter-agency collaboration and cooperation, adding that such actions violate the established rules and procedures of the NCoS, labeling them as “unacceptable and impermissible.”
According to a statement released, Abubakar explained that, “Subsequently, necessary disciplinary actions were taken including the suspension of the two correctional personnel implicated in the incident by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), chaired by the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubumni Tunji-Ojo.”
Furthermore, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche MFR mni, the Controller General of Corrections, has affirmed his commitment to maintaining discipline, transparency, and professionalism across all custodial centres in the country.
He said, “The Service categorically states that any personnel found engaging in acts of misconduct, corruption, or sabotage will be shown the way out of the system.”
Abubakar reassured the public of the service’s dedication to safe custody, humane treatment, and the reform of inmates, aligning with global best practices.
