NBAIS calls for increased funding, recognition of Arabic education in Kwara
The National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) Zone 5 has requested greater government support to enhance Arabic education across Kwara State.
This appeal was made during a recent courtesy visit to the Kwara State Head of Service by Mallam Saleem Sulaiman Jamiu, the Head of Quality Assurance at NBAIS.
“We urgently seek the government’s support in providing more funds for the State Arabic Education Board, as well as scholarships for students studying Arabic and Islamic Studies,” Jamiu emphasized. He also highlighted the importance of recognizing the Senior Arabic and Islamic Secondary School Certificate Examination (SAISSCE), urging the state government to treat it equally to other secondary school certificates like GCE and SSCE. “Such recognition is essential for our students’ future opportunities,” he added.
Responding to the NBAIS delegation, Dr. (Mrs) Olufunke Mercy Shittu, the Permanent Secretary for Service Welfare, assured them of a positive reception to their requests. “We have communicated your needs to the Executive Governor of Kwara State. The Office of the Head of Service is committed to giving your requests the attention they deserve as soon as we receive the necessary approvals,” she stated.
The visiting team comprised significant members such as Abdulganiu Salamat Omotayo, Head of the Legal Unit; Isa Bur’hanudeen Ishaq, Head of the Accreditation Unit; and Nurudeen Muhammad, Head of the Certificate Unit.
