NAFDAC uncovers illegal beverage operations at Lagos Trade complex, arrests main suspect
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says it has uncovered “an illegal operation at the Lagos Trade Fair Complex, where expired alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages were being revalidated for resale.”
According to a statement on its X handle, NAFDAC said its Investigation & Enforcement Directorate, said two individuals were caught removing expired beverage labels while replacing them with falsified date markings, adding that newly printed labels, date-marking tools, and discarded expired labels were also seized, and entire premises were sealed while the products were confiscated.
The statement added that the store owner, who is the main suspect, was arrested for further investigation.
NAFDAC, however, warned the public to exercise caution during purchases, especially this festive season, while advising them to report suspicious activities to the nearest office.
