NAFDAC signs MoU with NDLEA to combat drug misuse

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with its parent agency, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), to enhance the operational synergy of both parties.

NAFDAC, via its official X handle, said the agreement is essential to curtail the use of illicit drugs in society.

According to the Director General of the agency, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, while highlighting that after six years of effort, the agreement would bolster regulatory and control measures to combat drug misuse and safeguard public health, underscored the importance of the MoU as a step towards national security.

Adeyeye also emphasised the harmful impact of illicit drugs on the central nervous system, which often leads to violence and other social issues.

She, however, commended NDLEA Chairman Gen. Buba Maruwa for his commitment, noting that this collaboration would ensure better protection for the public by merging expertise and intelligence-sharing between both agencies.

On his part, Gen. Maruwa hailed the long-standing partnership between NAFDAC and NDLEA while stressing that their combined efforts were crucial for public safety.

He then called for a framework to enhance joint operations and intelligence sharing to combat drug abuse and ensure safe and approved consumables for citizens.
