N161m generated in 2024, says Kwara Attorney-General
The Kwara State Ministry of Justice has disclosed that a total revenue of N161,256,529,19 was generated in the last quarter of last year, underscoring the significant improvement in the justice sector through an unfettered adherence, at ensuring fair hearing, adherence to the rule of law not boycotted and legal service rendering at all time.
The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Senior Ibrahim Sulyman Esq, made this known during the week at the Inter-Ministrial Press Briefing, organised by the State Ministry of Communications, held at the Ministry of Finance Conference Room, in Ilorin, the state capital.
In a statement by Adesikeola Ajiboye, the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Senior Sulyman Esq, who was represented by the Director of Personnel Finance and Supply of the Ministry, Alhaji Salau Kabir Abdullahi, commended the State Government for the paradigm shift in the administration of justice, earnest adjudication of cases and fairness in legal proceedings, thereby positioning the Kwara State better on the improved score cards in Justice Sector.
The commissioner also reiterated the government’s resolve to reposition and enhance the judiciary sector in Kwara State, with an assurance that prosecution and defence of court cases of the state government are undertaken in due course.
According to him, “The Ministry as a cornerstone of legal administration in the state has continued to fulfil its requisite and supervisory role, to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), emphasising the committed stride of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in addressing some bureaucratic bottlenecks, in handling court cases for Government, Ministry and Extra-ministerial departments, drafting and vetting of legal instruments, prosecution of criminal cases, legal advisory role played to Ministries and Extra-ministerial departments as well as administration of Official Oaths in the State, thereby making government businesses easier and seamless.”
Recounting the Ministry’s success, he stressed that “there were appreciable levels of cases been concluded in the last quarter of the year 2024 under review, in civil litigation; 10 ongoing criminal cases; 37 ongoing, public prosecution:99 adding that, the department of legal drafting has 39 number of agreements vetted, 2 number of law bills making a total number of forty-one for legal drafting alone.”
Speaking on the revenue cases, the Attorney General explained, “The Department of Revenue Service of Justice Ministry has two high court cases, four revenue court cases with a total number of six cases received, six ongoing and twenty-one concluded.
“Furthermore, the achievements of the public defender has eighty-six ongoing cases, thirty-seven concluded cases, while the Citizens Mediation Centre has thirty-five complaints ongoing and twenty-nine concluded complaints.”
The Attorney General, however, commended the state government for providing the Ministry with a conducive and enabling environment to perform their civic responsibilities and granting their requests in due course.
