Mother, child rescued as fire razes building in Kwara
The power surge has again caused a fire outbreak at No. 8 Aiyegbede Street, Awolowo, Tanke, Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
It was gathered that the fire, which happened on Thursday, March 20th, 2025, at about 1:40 pm, affected a two-flat residential building consisting of a three-bedroom flat and a two-bedroom flat, whereas only the sitting room of the two-bedroom flat sustained fire damage.
According to a statement by the spokesperson of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, the fire crew responded immediately and swiftly commenced firefighting operations upon arrival.
It was also revealed that the fire was first noticed by Mr. Owolabi, who promptly alerted other residents, rescuing a mother and her child, who were asleep at the time unharmed.
However, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, sympathized with the affected occupants while emphasizing the importance of fire safety precautions. He also commended the residents for their bravery in assisting the victims and encouraged the public to always look out for one another in times of emergency.
