‘Most difficult of my career’: Taiwo Awoniyi speaks first time after surgery

Taiwo Awoniyi has issued a statement amid his recovery from the injury he sustained a few weeks ago.

Recall that Awoniyi recently suffered a serious injury after colliding with the post during a match against Leicester City at the City Ground, resulting in a ruptured intestine.

The striker, who consequently underwent an abdominal surgery, was later placed in a medically induced coma.

The club later confirmed that the forward underwent successful surgery.

In a statement he personally signed, Awoniyi said “This season has been one of the most difficult of my career but through it all. I have felt the love. With the grace of God, I am grateful to still be here, to still be fighting, to still be smiling, and to be in good spirits.

He contniued “To my teammates, coaches, staff and the entire Forest family. thank you for your well wishes, seeing you all on your visit to the hospital lifted my spirits more than words can say.

“Wishing the boys the very best in these last two games, keep believing and keep pushing. I’m with you all the way and I can’t wait to be back out there with the boys doing what I love”

“To my family, friends and football fans, thank you for the support, and to everyone back home in Nigeria who has checked in on me, prayed for me and left kind words, thank you. I see them. I feel them. And I carry them with me every day as I recover”.
Come on you Reds.

Meanwhile,Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo a few days ago provided an update on the injury status of the Nigerian striker, where he revealed that he could return to join the team in the new week.

Nuno said “We know that he is well, he just needs time, I hope by next week he can be around and join us, because believe me he’s a wonderful boy. And this season has been so hard on him, so hard on him that we feel so sorry. “

As his fellow teammates however filed out for their game against Westham on Sunday afternoon, they were seen warming up with a shirt with inscription saying ‘We’re all with you, Taiwo’- in a bid to show solidarity for the injured striker.
