Monarch suspends chief over allegations of land grabbing in Osun

The palace of the Timi of Ede in Osun State, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, announced the indefinite suspension of Chief Jimoh Kabir, the Loogun of Ede, on Monday. The decision follows allegations that Kabir disregarded the authority of Oba Lawal and engaged in illegal land grabbing activities.

A statement released by the Timi’s palace confirmed that the Timi-in-Council, the highest traditional decision-making body in Ede, made the decision after receiving multiple complaints against the suspended chief.

The statement detailed that the council had found Kabir’s actions to be unbecoming of his position, emphasizing the need to restore order within the community. “The Timi-in-Council has suspended Chief Jimoh Kabir as the Loogun of Edeland. This decision results from his flagrant disrespect for the law, the authority of His Majesty, and the traditional stool,” it read.

Furthermore, the council highlighted its determination to maintain the integrity of the traditional institution and warned other chiefs against exploiting their positions.

Attempts to reach Chief Jimoh Kabir for comment have so far been unsuccessful, as he did not respond to phone calls or texts from The PUNCH at the time of this report.
