Mob attacks disrupt firefighters responding to vehicle blaze in Ilorin
In a disturbing turn of events on Saturday, 31st of May, 2025, firefighters from the Kwara State Fire Service faced an unprovoked attack while responding to an emergency report of one Ministry of Environment’s buses, engulfed by fire at the Adeta Roundabout in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to a statement by Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the Head of Media and Publicity, Kwara State Fire Service, the firefighters upon their arrival at the scene, confronted by a mob, disrupting their emergency operations.
It was reported that although no firefighters sustained injuries during the incident, the violent encounter, however, resulted in damage to the windshield of their fire vehicle.
While reacting, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, expressed his outrage over the attack, saying “This act of violence against our emergency responders is unacceptable,” he stated. “I urge all citizens of Kwara State to remain law-abiding and peaceful, especially during times of crisis.”
The Kwara State Fire Service reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, appealing to the community for support and cooperation during emergency interventions.
