Man sentenced to death for killing his twin daughters
A High Court in Akamkpa, Cross River State, has sentenced a father, Mr Udo Ayanime, to death for the murder of his twin children, Mfoniso and Emediong.
According to reports, the inmate accused the 11-year-old victims of witchcraft.
“Udo’s behaviour is devilish, demonic, and beyond human comprehension,” Justice Agnes Onyebueke, who rendered judgment in the case with suit number HK/6C/2018, added.
The judge found that the offender murdered his daughters “wilfully and gruesomely” in 2017 after accusing them of being witches.
When questioned further, the middle-aged man was unable to defend his actions.
He was believed to have given the girls an acidic malt drink.
The event was originally reported in February 2017, according to Mr James Ibor, a child rights campaigner whose organization, Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, initiated the case.
Udo was arrested by the police after an inquiry, according to Ibor.
“The police made certain that the deceased youngsters had the appropriate medical evaluations and autopsies, which supported the decision.”
“This judgment is just for the victims and the Cross River State government,” he continued.
