Man sentenced to 21 years imprisonment for raping, impregnating daughter

A Special Offences Court sitting at Ikeja on Thursday sentenced a man, Akin Isaac, 52, to 21 years’ imprisonment over rape and impregnation of his 18-year-old daughter.

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo sentenced Isaac after his April 21 plea bargain application.

“In view of the guilty plea of the defendant to one count of defilement, I hereby find the defendant guilty as charged,” Taiwo said.

The judge thereafter threw a question to the convict if he had any opinion to reveal, following his conviction.

Report has it that the defendant knelt down in the dock and asked for mercy, pleading that he had an aged mother to care of.

The convict was thereafter, given 21 years imprisonment which is to take effect from June 2020 when he was apprehended.

The judge had earlier asked Mrs Omowumi Bajulaye- Bishi, the State Counsel, if the 21 years plea bargain was good enough for the defendant, while considering how emotional the survivor was while she was narrating her testimony.

“I remember the survivor clearly. She was weeping right here in the box. Abortion, pregnancy, drugs, beating and all sorts of inhuman treatment meted on her by her father?

“Do you think 21 years is good enough for him,” the judge asked.

The prosecutor revealed that the convict had begun to have unlawful sexual relationship with his 18-year-old daughter while she was six, which led to at least one pregnancy.

She also opined that the convict attempted to abort his daughter’s pregnancy and regularly provided drugs for her to prevent pregnancy.
